The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women's service organization, founded on October 11, 1890, by four visionary women—Eugenia Washington, Mary Desha, Mary Smith Lockwood, and Ellen Hardin Walworth—who sought to preserve the memory and spirit of those who achieved American independence.
Membership is open to women 18 years of age and older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
Today, with more than 3,000 chapters across the United States and around the world, the DAR brings together women who share a passion for American history, genealogy, community service, and preserving the legacy of those who helped establish our nation.
